DBT Skills Groups
DBT skills groups have been shown to be effective for people who have challenges regulating emotions, managing stress, are struggling in relationships, or feel that their moods and emotions are controlling their life. DBT skills are an adjunct to individual therapy.
Our classes are offered for those who are in comprehensive DBT treatment as well as others in individual therapy, either with Kelly, Lisa, or I or someone they may already be working with. This will be discussed at the initial intake session. DBT is an evidence-based therapy, and the skills are integral to the work. Most people find what they learn in these classes to be very helpful in creating meaningful changes to sustain a life with more awareness and joy. Our classes meet weekly and the curriculum is divided into modules.
DBT Skills Modules include:
-
Mindfulness- Train your attention to stay present without judgment, so you can notice thoughts and feelings without letting them run the show.
-
Distress Tolerance- Life gets messy, these skills show you how to survive crisis moments without making things worse. You’ll learn quick “crisis survival” tools.
-
Emotion Regulation- Gain a toolbox for understanding, naming, and shifting intense feelings. You will also learn how to "build your emotional savings account" so when life hands you a hard day you are not "over drafting the account."
-
Interpersonal Effectiveness- Get practical scripts for asking for what you need, setting limits, and protecting self-respect, especially in high-emotion situations.
-
Walking the Middle Path Skills (Adolescent and Caregiver Group)- helps you balance extremes, validate multiple perspectives, and respond effectively in emotionally charged situations in the family system.
